Remember when we were young, there was cartoon namely Noah’s Ark that was vividly painted unto the canvas of my memory. Noah was living in the times when men were wicked and treacherous, and God wanted to destroy everything but Noah because he has found grace in the eyes of the Lord. God foretold a great flood that will wipe everything off the face of the Earth and told Noah to build a gigantic ark to hold his family and two animals of every kind. Noah would be outside his house everyday, hammering the nails and positioning the planks, and his neighbors would scoff and laugh at him for building such a huge ark. Everyday when they wake up, they would hear the hammering of the nails “ting”, “ting”, “ting” until one day, they could no longer hear the noise; God ’s reset plan was underway.
Everyone has played video games in some part of our lives before; Theres usually the reset button. When we run out of “Lives” or “Die” in the game we would hit the restart button. Everything will be fine and perfect, just as the way it was when this neat little function is put into use. It was probably the greatest and most imbalanced function ever created.
We tend to rely too much on the reset button and often abuse the reset button we have in life. Often when do not hand in our assignments on time, we ask for a second chance from our superior to hand it in the next day; what happens if you press the reset button too many times? You’ll probably get detention if you’re a student or fired if you’re a working adult, for the failure to hand up work on time.
The reset button in life has it’s limit for the number of times you can actually hit it. Take for example, the boy who cried wolf, he was given 2 chances and he did not cherish them which ultimately lead to his death when the real wolf came. Lesson learned? “Reseting” yourself too many times will just make you break.
At this point of time i would like to share the story of the all-known-but-not-understood story of the yellow ribbon, its currently Singapore’s sign for the acceptance of ex-convicts. There was a man who used to live life on the edge. He was making the quick bucks and would always go drinking till the wee of the morning; when he returned home, he would physically abuse his wife and children. He was caught eventually and jailed. On the day before his release, he wrote a letter to his wife and children, saying how sorry he was and if they wanted him back they should tie a yellow ribbon around the old oak tree at their town square, if he din’t see the ribbon he would continue his journey on the bus and head to California to lead a new life. So it came to past, when the bus was passing by the town square, he looked up and did not see one yellow ribbon but the entire oak tree was filled with yellow ribbons.
As I vaguely recalled and penned the story of the yellow ribbons, tears began to well up. What actually makes someone give you a second chance? The answer is probably just a word- Love. Love involves sacrifice, you can give without loving, but you can’t give without loving. For those who don’t believe in love, open your eyes a little bigger and put on your wide angle lenses, Start noticing the details.
A friend told me she din’t really buy the whole “Love” crap.
This is for her, i hope she sees this.
Heres a song based on the story of the yellow ribbon
